Put yourself in your dad’s shoes. If you needed home care, what would you want most of all? Some value privacy. Others crave socialization. You might be the type of person who likes to be left alone some days and surrounded by people on others. Now, think about your dad.
As you consider the tasks he can no longer do independently, think about how he acted in the past. If you wanted to help him complete a household chore, did he enjoy your help or ask you to go away? He may have mellowed with age, but there may still be a level of independence that he’s not willing to give up.
How Much Can Really Get Done?

You can cook, but standing in the same spot makes your back hurt, so you go for foods that get you in and out of the kitchen in a hurry.
Make sure that your dad is only getting senior care services that he really needs. He’ll be more active if he’s still doing some of the household cleaning and activities of daily living.
When Would Interaction Become an Annoyance?
Some interaction may appeal to your dad. He may love having a visitor to chat with during meals. Would he want that visit to last all day? You may find that he only wants someone around for a few hours and to have the rest of the day in an empty house.
How Amenable is He to Someone Else Helping Out?
Your dad may have a very particular way of doing things. He may not want someone else touching his underwear. He may be okay with someone washing the clothes but not put them away in his bedroom. He may want his bedroom to be off limits. Try to respect those wishes.
Now that you’ve figured out what you feel is the perfect home care plan for him, sit down and ask him for his input. There may be aspects you failed to consider. Together, you’ll come up with a senior care plan that eases your mind and suits his tastes. Once you have that plan, call a home care agency to take
