-Talk to your senior’s doctor about their difficulties. Encourage your parent to be honest about what they are experiencing, and how they are feeling. They may be able to recommend ways for your parent to better cope as it pertains to their own current condition.
-Ensure your senior is properly managing any health issues they have that can impact their breathing, such as allergies, lung disease, heart failure, or infections.
-Encourage your parent to exercise as much as they can. The less they exercise, the lower their lung capacity will become, and breathing issues will become worse. Talk to their doctor about what types of exercises are safe and effective for your aging parent, and how your parent should know when they have reached their limit.
-Keep their home clean and free from irritants such as dust, dirt, and smoke.
-Help to control their anxiety. This can include participating in a support group, relying on the care of an elder care provider for companionship and boosting confidence, and talking to their doctor about effective management techniques.
It is a common misconception that only people who are very old or who are living with very serious health issues can benefit from elder care. The truth is, even those who are still largely independent, or who only have mild to moderate issues, can benefit tremendously from the customized services of an elderly home care services provider.
A senior can enjoy greater independence and autonomy through access to safe and reliable transportation, mobility support, and companionship. Access to assistance with daily tasks such as keeping their home clean and running errands can also conserve their energy, and save some time, allowing them to focus more on things they want to do and enjoy a more fulfilling lifestyle throughout their later years. As a family caregiver, this care can make you feel better about your senior’s quality of life, and relieve your stress.
